Heart catheter test

Off to the hospital we went at 9.30 this morning. Was all prepped and ready when an emergency took my spot and we were left to wait and wait and wait. Luckily I had Bob and our daughter to talk to.

While waiting they were rushed out while a procedure was performed in the next cubical.. I got to listen to it all. Evidently the patient's heart was in super fast mode and they hadn't been able to lower it ... the doctors decided to shock the heart and hope to restart it in a more acceptable rhythm. They actually stopped her heart!!  and shocked it to restart!! More was done but thus was the main deal!

I was wheeled to the test room shortly afterward . They readied both sides of my groin . Left one was plan B just in case. But all went fine and pretty rapidly.  No blockages  so no stents.

Two hours of recuperation later I went home... a few sensible instructions about lifting etc. 6 month check-up scheduled with the cardiologist.

BIG RELIEF !

surprise!! snow!!

I woke up this morning to find we had received about an inch of snow.  Surprise! Put on my boots and went out for the papers.
Yes we still actually get two newspapers... the Kansas City Star and the Independence Examiner. I like getting both since they cover different aspects of the KC/ Eastern Jackson County viewpoints.  BTW the carriers throw the paper in plastic bag at the end of the driveway.... by car.

My computer sent me notifications this morning... reminders of things I need to do before I have a heart catheter procedure tomorrow.  They are doing this because the nuclear stress test showed something the doctors weren't happy with....what happens after this? Maybe a stent/s... ? or nothing at all which is what happened 6 years ago when I had the test.

One good thing... Bob is taking me out to dinner tonight.

"girded my loins"

I " girded my loins" and took out my cell phone and called the US Senate.  I finally got through the switchboard and told the person answering the phone that we were Missouri residents ( it was the office of my Senator) and that we wished all documents and  witnesses to be heard in the impeachement trial. She said the info would be passed onto the Senator...

do I believe it will make any difference?  No... but at least I tried.

what a mess....

no ice

I don't think it really got cold enough to turn the water under the snow to ice. The city snowplow finally came through our circle so Bob went out to shovel the pile at the end of the driveway. It was still slush so no big deal shovelling !

Bob bought s piece of Heath test  equipment and needed to pick it up from the online auctioneer. Our trip there went fine but we decided to try another way home and got lost. Even our Garmin  was confused. We ended up doing a turn around in a parking lot and worked our way back to where things became familiar. North Kansas City can be confusing!

The heart tests Friday went well ( at least I think they did) and am now waiting for the results. The tests took a little over three hours... luckily Bob took a book along and read while sitting in the waiting room!! Glad he came along as I would not have liked driving home . I felt a little wobbly!

A bear maker friend died unexpectedly earlier this month. We were both part of a Facebook group and the moderator put up a challenge in my friend's name. I finished the bear and her outfit last night and will post her on the group's page soon. I am hoping that others will also make bears.

today's surprise

Well the weatherman didn't see it coming  ( again) but we woke to find about 5 inches of snow. Temps were high enough to get things melting after the schools were all closed ! Earlier things were slick  so the buses would have had problems off of the bigger roads - the ones where all the kids need to be picked up LOL.

Bob went out and shoveled ... twice... so that I could get out and off to our local hospital for a nuclear stress test and a carotid artery sonogram.  I had been instructed not to take my blood pressure pills or caffeine for 24 hours before the tests ... so after the tests I felt really whipped .  Food, a pill and some hot cider really helped!

Now to wait for the results...

Everyone in the KC area is really excited that our football team ( the KC Chiefs) will be going to the superbowl in Miami next month. Since none of the schools were open today, the weatherman showed pictures of snowmen honoring our quarterback Patrick Mahomes . Kept the out of school kids busy!

Tonight the temperatures are going below freezing so all the melted snow water under what's left of the snow will freeze. Luckily it's Saturday so no school. Things will be icey early!!

WWI

I was thinking about my grandfather's WWI experiences today. He was a British subject working in Krefeld,Germany when the war started. He was interned as a POW near Berlin for the entirety of the war. There were British sailors also interned and they taught him how to knit. When he was released he came home with three sweaters for my Grandmother.

My Grandmother and my Mother spent the war in Krefeld where her German parents/family owned a silk tie factory. My Grandmother was allowed to take the train from Krefeld to the POW facility and visit with my Grandfather once a month.

My Grandmother's younger brother enlisted in the German army. He was MIA in Russia and never returned. My Great-grandmother waited for him for the rest of her life.

When my Grandfather was released he returned to Krefeld where my Mother ( then aged 9) greeted him with "Deutchland uber alles" and no longer speaking any English. He packed the two of them up and returned to England...

LuLu's noodle shop

I did get out today even though it is 14 degrees outside! It snowed this morning... about 1/2 inch!! But our trip to Costco to check out how well my new hearing aids are working was fine.

This afternoon Lili and her Mother picked me up for a trip to the Crossroads part of Kansas City to pick up art supplies for Lili's college art class. My son ( her uncle) left money to help out with her college expenses. We bought  all sorts of things from a table top easel, tool case, loads of paper, charcoals and so on. Luckily Lili could pull up a list of what she needed on her phone !

Then it was off to LuLu's Noodle Shop  for a late lunch/snack... we had ginger beer (non-alcoholic) and a sampler plate of crab rangoons,  spring rolls and a steamed thingies filled with pork or veggies. All with various dipping sauces. All very tasty. Lili had a dessert that was like crab rangoons but filled with banana and honey which she dipped nto a peanut sauce.

Lili is taking art classes, psychology, poly science and something else. She is still feeling her way around but is enthusiastic.

Don't think I am going to be very hungry at dinner time....lol

not going anywhere

Luckily we went out to dinner last night... to a very nice restaurant in Independence, Mo. which was part of a Kansas City area restaurant happening!

Because we have ice and rain today!!  Schools were even cancelled last night"just in case"!
If you look outside ,it doesn't look bad ,but underneath the wet is a layer of ice...!!
So I am going to stay home and work on bears!

The quilting group meeting went well but we were missing some members due to the cold season. Hoping the next meeting in two weeks will have more!!

My 17 year old grand daughter has started college !! And is enjoying it. She is attending the community college in Independence and is still living at home. She works part-time at Applebee's Restaurant and does the "To Go" orders where you call in what you want and then pick your order up. I think she has to take it out to the car as well as do everything but cook.

Just took a picture of the ice!!

working away

I have been working away on new things for the next bear show in February... and filling bags for the Disabled Vets Red Racks thrift store and the Habitat for Humanity Restore thrift store!!
Bob and I made a run to both of the stores this morning and my corner where I store stuff until there is "enough" is empty! Hooray... time to start again!

Our weather has meant very foggy mornings but the afternoons are fine. Today we will have temps in the low 40's.  So no heavy coats!!

My "quilting" group meets here Wednesday eveningso I have been thinking about the "menu".... desert will be something with chocolate. One member gives up chocolate for Lent but it's not that time yet! I try to offer some healthy things  such as veggies and dip, nuts and the like but everyone has a sweet tooth so out come cookies and brownies!

weatherman goofs

The weatherman's prediction was off.... yes we had rain and it froze and then snow. But no where near as bad as he predicted. The 6 inches of snow ended up being about an inch. The ice never was a sheet of ice but just granules. So we lucked out !!
My planned stay at home things filled the day. I finished a Faye Kellerman book ... " The Beast".  I love her way of writing her characters. I feel like I know them !
Then I finished a bear sweater... It was a pattern I found for free on Ravelry for a doll but it works for bears!! The first one I did I used much finer yarn and smaller needles. The second used the yarn and needles the author recommended. Fun.. they turned out very different size wise!!
Then I worked on a mouse... red mohair for Valentine's Day.
So it was a good day!

lousy forecast

It has been raining off and on all day and the weatherman says the water will freeze tonight and then we will have up to six inches of snow... what a lousy forecast....
.On the other side of Kansas City the ice is already forming on the tree branches and presumably the roads.  Here's hoping that when the cold gets to this side and things start to freeze that all the tree trimming we did a few weeks ago will lessen the possibilities of broken branches and fallen power lines!

We didn't need to make a food run but Bob did pick up another bag of cat food, milk and orange juice when he returned from taking our grandson to his trombone lessons... just in case.

I baked bread... one loaf became part of dinner. It was good!!

Shortly I will be having a nuclear stress test and a sonogram checking for carotid plaque. No food for 4 hours beforehand but even worse no caffeine for 24 hours, Guess I will be drinking water and herbal tea.  I will even have to skip my blood pressure pills for 24 hours. Bob will drop me off since the whole thing will take 4 hours and I don't want him sitting around the waiting room for that long. I'll call when I need a ride home ... it's only 5 minutes away.
I'll take my kindle for whatever down time there is.

Lots of churches, schools and so on are already indicating ( on the tv)  that they will be closed tomorrow... I'm planning on bear/mouse making in front of the fire!!  And when I want something different... a book!

Christmas is undone...

My husband and I tackled the chore of taking all the Christmas decorations down today... the tree, all my Annalee felt mice and deer, the outside lights and whatever we found. The tree is up in the attic. The rest is all boxed up in plastic toted and in the storage area!!
The house looks a little dull and woebegone...I will have to do SOMETHING" before my stitch and bi*** group meets here on the 15th!

Before we tackled the Christmas stuff we went off to Costco to pick up my new hearing aids. Previously I only had one for the "bad ear"... but things have declined in the good one to the point of needing a hearing aid in that one too.

The audiologist did all the programming... making sure the levels were the same ...  Life is a lot louder now.  Will I get used to that? The mantle clock really startled me when it chimed.

BTW these are bluetooth connected via an app on my cellphone and my husband's too. Being almost 75 is not fun all the time!

Our weather is still quite a bit warmer than usual... and dry.  There is fire warning out .. like along the railroad tracks, fields etc.  After all the earlier floods, being so dry is unexpected.

Harper ... update

Remember Harper... the puppy my daughter and her  husband adopted?

Here she was....

Here she is now!!   Can't believe she is sitting in the chair I call "mine" in my daughter's office/computer room!!  That's Harper's computer room bed on the lower right but I guess she preferred the chair!!
