Raining

Bob just came in from putting out mail in the mailbox saying it was RAINING... yuck... but better than snow or ice!! It is so gray out that I hadn't noticed!

We are still waiting to hear about getting a covid vaccine. Missouri is at the bottom of the list of states listing the number of vaccines given. Still our "wonderful" governor praises himself every time I read something he's said!..Guess I don't agree.

Monday is February... this past month has zoomed by. Everything I read whether it be paper or Facebook or see on TV leaves me with an upset stomach and worries about what is going to happen next.  The idea that the MAGA's put forth about inaugurating Trump on March 4th doesn't help. Nor does the crazy ideas put forth by some of the Congress Reps and Senators... Nor the unwillingness of these same people to convict Trump...

Luckily I can keep busy....there's many a bear or bear friend to make. I  have been sorting through my bear making fabrics hoping to cut down the amount I have. I have been careful not to buy more (LOL) . I broke that agreement with myself last week and bought two "fat quarters" of mohair... partly because I'd hate to see my supplier go under. Partly because I wanted something new!  Some of my "stash" is from the 1990's !!

This mouse was made from leftover pieces... None of which would make anything by itself. If I remember correctly she was made from 5 different mohair fabrics!! The main piece was a tie -dye one... all different purples which made the other pieces work! Fun!

BTW... when I first started making bears, mohair cost about $100/ yard ( 36 inches long by 54" wide). Now it can cost over $240 for the same fabric. No wonder I bought more then!

weather on the news

The weather person had all sorts of dire predictions last night with lots of maps showing up to a foot of snow to the north and west.... and some here.  But when we woke up this morning it looked like we had a dusting of confectionery sugar!!

But Kansas was reporting multiple simultaneous car crashes on the news... they must have gotten ice instead of snow!! Amazing how different the weather can be even if only 20 - 30 miles away!!

My daughter received the Moderna vaccine.... day one was fine... day 2 -3 was awful. She is not looking forward to the second part.

Took Tigger (the orangey one) to the vet for his annual check-up yesterday. The vet's office is still doing Covid requirements. So was called in from our parking spot and an assistant came out for him and the carrier. Dr. Ryder called us on his speaker phone so we got to listen to the whole exam. Tigger is getting fatter ( just like all of us staying home) and needs to have his food bowl less full...lol.  Other than that .. he got three shots, worm stuff and is cleared for another year ... teeth are good too so no cleaning! He is doing the after shots extra sleeping today.

Just finished my Missouri  sales tax form for 2020.... with that year being what it was I didn't have any taxable sales. Sales yes, but not taxable ones. I know if I don't send in the form to the Dept. of Revenue... it will let me know in uncertain terms even if I didn't have any taxable sales.... So I have taken care of things for another year!!  LOL

I think I will treat myself to some "Miss Read"  .... I am enjoying rereading the book and will have to hunt out the second book!

59 degrees in January...

Yesterday the temperature reached 59 degrees... it was beautifully sunny too!! Without sounding too "whatever" , it was if the weather was celebrating!!

Not going to be as warm today but the sky is still super blue and it's sunny!

Reading books

One of the blogs I follow mentioned the "Miss Read" series of books by  Dora Jessie Saint. They are set in a village school starting about the mid-fifties. I read most of them ages ago when they showed up in my library... enjoyed them too! But the mention recently had me searching Kindle to see if I could reread them now. Amazon has some of them so I purchased the first one.  I needed something simple without murder, detectives and so on. ( BTW .. our library is closed due to covid).

Started reading last night ( I always read in bed!!).... it "soothed my soul". Just what I needed with my fear that something awful was going to happen today at the inauguration.  Luckily I was wrong about that!

If you didn't watch the inauguration... I highly recommend reading the poem by Amanda Gorman the youngest ever US poet Laureate .... she is amazing!!

Day #1  !!!    Believe it or not... a neighbor put back up his Trump sign last night !!

All the Christmas decorations have been put away.... It did get up to 50 degrees!

little posting

Even though we are still  helping our daughter with her bathroom plus ... and having our grand daughter stop by with a "needs repair" coffee table ... it seems like the "riot" news takes up a lot of our time.

The stats in our area are still very nerve wracking so we have increased our usage of curbside. My elder daughter did receive the shot ( felt absolutely rotten the next day or so) and the rest of us are on the health dept. lists. No word yet.

Since I am allergic to the flu shot, am  75 plus, and have some heart issues we have decided to contact my doctor and see what he recommends. Does he want me to take the shot under hospital supervision or what!

Luckily (?) I have another online show coming up in February so bear making is always an option while house bound ...

To celebrate the inauguration will will take down our Christmas lights and put away the tree... will miss the glow of the lights at night.  To aid in this, the temperature is supposed to reach into the 50's !

Helping in the bathroom

We have been helping my daughter redo her bathroom... last visits we put up wall anchors for shelves and painting the walls.  Before yesterdays visit, my daughter replaced the faucet and finished the painting. I doggie sat while she and my husband check for leaks ( from the new faucet) and put back up the shower curtain "rod" with bigger wall anchors...

My daughter has decided on an accent wall, feeling the bathroom is too white, and will hang up hooks for towels and the cutest picture of a Scottish cow standing in an old fashioned bath tub!!

We are in her bubble so visiting her is safe... she gets the vaccine Thursday

She found a recipe for a grilled cheese, caramelized onion and fig jam sandwich... it called for sourdough but she chose pumpernickel ...  wonderful dinner !!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Not much I can say after yesterday's disaster... felt scared... appalled and then angry

Sunday, January 3, 2021

past midnight ...

We stayed up ... had our snack and a New Years toast..... but stayed up for another hour just to make sure that it was 2021!!

Lots of our neighbors set off fireworks... not just the noisy boom kind but the ones that go up in the sir and cascade down in all sorts of patterns and colors!!

Our daughters came over this afternoon for coffee and leftover Christmas cookies. It is the first time all 4 of us have been together since last spring. It was nice. If we all stay healthy it won't be that long again.

The "girls" will be receiving their Covid vaccines shortly. One next week as an essential worker. The other is a teacher and she is registered with the health department for the following tier. I will be glad when they are vaccinated.

Politically life is still in  turmoil... hibernation until January 21??  Or maybe I will just make bears like mad!!

BTW... nearly fell down the steps this morning on the way out for the paper. The steps had a thick layer of ice but I was holding onto the railing. No harm down except one knee is a little achey.  I should have known to be extra careful when I saw how far the paper had slid down the driveway from where it was thrown!!
