sea shell flowers

I finally made some flowers from sea shells for Piper. I learned the technique last year at Sanibel's Community Center. I expanded the technique this year... though not all are being held by Piper!

New friend from the Lightner Museum

I finally have downloaded my vacation pictures... and am getting them photoshopped.
This one was taken in the Lightner Museum, King St., St. Augustine, FL. I loved the bear.. all wood, glass eyes with great detailing and expression.

Key limes or lemons?

Here's another "Vacation Bear"! On our way from Sanibel Island to St. Augustine we took Rt. 27 through the middle of Florida's orange country... acre after acre of orange trees! Some had just been picked...trucks laden with oranges attested to that . But others were still fruit filled!
Another aspect of the "middle" was driving into a 10 mile or so swarm of "love bugs" doing the mating thingy. Our SUV's front became covered with bugs... our license plate almost unreadable!! Boy were they hard to scrub off!
Braden has a pair of vintage Florida salt and pepper shakers.. but he's not sure whether they are key limes or lemons!

Ice cream you scream...we all scream for ice cream

Rusty went on vacation with us to Sanibel....we "discovered" a fantastic ice cream place after reading an article in the local paper. It's called Pinocchio's. They have all sorts of Sanibel themed ice cream concoctions and gelatos. So here's Rusty with Florida sunglasses enjoying a "cone".
Other "Vacation Bears" are on the NEWS page of my website and on Facebook.

Still enjoying our "get-away"

We are still having a great time. Bob snapped a picture of me shelling near the bridge that connects Sanibel to Captiva.
We have been busy enough during the day (bike riding, shelling swimming)that sitting and working on these little guys is good therapy for sore muscles! BabyYbel is on the right and Bailey is on the left... both sitting in pairs of "ponderous arks". The biggest I've found yet , still connected. Plus there are samples of the other shells I've found !

thought I'd make all of you jealous

Sanibel Island, FL. is wonderful again. The weather is gorgeous... high 80's and sunny with enough of a breeze! Our condo is comfortable... we've rented the same one several times but the owner has updated! We also rented bikes and have been on a ride from the condo to the Sanibel Lighthouse Park and back! Wandered aound watching people... lots of fishing from the shore, boats and pier. We've checked into renting a kayak on Tuesday for a water tour of Tarpon Bay... self-guided. Tarpon Bay is part of the Dink Dingle Nature Preserve!
Read in the local paper that Sanibel is preparing for the oil spill to reach Florida.... hope it doesn't!!

Little bags of bear parts are going untouched in favor of shelling, biking, swimming and reading!!! And, need I say more, goofing off!

We made the cover of "Bears and Buds"

Glass Dragon Teddy Bears made the cover of the May issue of "Bears and Buds" magazine! Inside is an article on me ( and my bears)! Bob answered their questions ( he writes much better than I do!) and they turned them into this wonderful article complete with pictures!
