raining last night and this morning

It was raining when I woke up this morning.. enough rain to fill the street gutters. Later this morning we  had some sun but it is gray now.. The weather reports say we will be much warmer starting Saturday...

Hopefully a trip to the farmers' market Saturday will be dry!  Both Bob and I are having a quiet day after the company last night and his spending time strengthen Harper's gate.

We have had  a jet and a two rotator-type helicopter flying over head. The jet was quite low and way too big for the Grain Valley airport nearby and was going back and forth. After it left we had sirens and then the helicopter which was big ... low and noisy . No idea what was going on.

Finishing up

Just finishing a few things before people arrive this evening.

Bob went out to our daughter's house to work on the gates .. hopefully to keep Harper from escaping again.

Talking about escaping... Tigger the orange cat managed to slip past me as I went outside to water my tomato plants . I had made a batch of banana peel water. Tigger ran down the steps with me going after him. He got to the bottom and looked around and decided to come back up where I grabbed him and tossed him back into the house. We are going to have to do something about his desire to get out!! I would be happy to let him be on the deck but Bob is afraid he will jump down ... the deck is a second story one.

The quilting/crafting "meeting" was great fun... a little working, eating and laughing!

trash bins

On our way out of our subdivision on an errand we saw loads of trash bins waiting for the weekly emptying... they will be there  until tomorrow. Today is our usual day but yesterday was Memorial Day - a holiday- so things have been put off until tomorrow !

The trash company called to tell us of this change!

Our heat came back on in the middle of the night... it had gotten a lot cooler...and rainy.

I think I am pretty well ready for tomorrow's quilting/crafting get together.

Later.. just heard from our daughter that Harper is digging under gate again. With all our rain the dirt is very soft and so it has been easy for her. Bob is going to help.. again

Monday ...work day

Today ( Monday) is turning out to be a workday. Not saying that things didn't need  to be done and that people will  be here Wednesday night..

Bob is doing laundry ...bedding, towels and clothes. I've been doing the floors in the lobby, hallways, bathrooms etc. The kitchen comes last. The cats have not been at their best ( peeing out of their multiple litter boxes) lately so Bob will take the rug cleaner to those areas last thing at night so things will dry by morning.

It looks like another rain storm is on its way...The view outside of our office shows trees blowing around and the sky is gray. ..... But nothing happened.

Beds made... clothes folded and put away...

Tried a new recipe for cod with lemon and parsley. It was ok but nothing great . I may have to go back to my Mother's parsley sauce for cod next time. It's a recipe/meal I remember from our time in London.

Born in Germany..London from 10 months to 6 plus short stay in the Channel Islands... US from 6 on.

Another do nothing or not much day.... Sunday

Looking back at today... it was another "do nothing or not much day"! It was raining this morning and it probably had overnight too.. but I headed out anyway to our neighborhood WalMart. We like its English muffin bread, cookies and bagels ( bakery area).... and I needed some other things too. I also impulsed!

It was still raining when I left. Beeped the car horn when I arrived home and Bob helped me unload the car and put things away. The fridge is full.. fuller than I like, but people are coming over for our quilting/craft group this Wednesday and refreshments "have" to be served!

After all that I worked on a bear or two and read.

Harper is free!

Harper's "cone of shame" has been taken off and her stitches removed. She is free and knows it ... rolling around on her yard's grass!!  Though she was angry with my daughter for taking her to that place ( the vet) again...

Bob and I had an errand run this morning... he to Target and me to Michael's. They are next door to each other. I finished first and enjoyed sitting on a planter to wait. The sun was delightful and no wind. Part of Bob's trip was unsuccessful. He wanted kitty litter and the pet section of Target was in the midst of "the remodel".

waiting

Here we sit waiting for the storms and tornadoes the weatherpeople are predicting....We will listen for the sirens and if they go off we will take our phones and hustle down to the corner of the basement that has no windows and is under the front steps ( concrete). We have chairs to sit on.

Earlier Bob went and undid Harper's gate so the lawn mowing guys could get in... when he returned I headed out to Price Chopper  to buy this week's sale items plus what we are out of.

Our grand daughter called... worried about the predicted weather. Bob told her what to do and reassured her. She is all finished with this semester in college... another all A's ! Hooray for her! She has an online class this summer and four classes this fall and then will graduate!!

later...it did get windy and we did get a little rain but that's it!!

Windy Saturday

Yesterday we got up early and headed out to Blue Springs' second market... the Main Street one. Next weekend we will go to the Farmers' Market. The parking lots and streets were full of cars and people walking around. Finally found a spot!

Lots of people at the market... in fact came across teacher/daughter and her family! I mentioned to her husband that a booth was offering chicken feet for dogs. The jar full of feet looked weird. He bought two for their dog ( later report was negative though Moxxie did end up walking around with one in her mouth!) We bought small yellow tomatoes, sourdough bars, white bread, radishes.

There was a booth with all sorts of gorgeous mushrooms. Very pricey and I am not sure what to do with them and according to the booth holder, they spoil pretty quickly.

So all in all... my step count was higher than usual. Bob and I enjoyed a slice of bread and butter as soon as we got home.

I worked on bears... Bob mowed. The weather report talks about storms tomorrow and Monday!

We are headed out to Moocho's in Oak Grove for dinner with elder daughter  tonight...

later..

Dinner was great. The restaurant wasn't busy so we just stayed and talked. Harper has another vet visit Wed. to see if her "cone of shame"  can be removed.

Bob thinks he has a plan on how to fix the gate so that Harper can't get out again...Currently he has screwed a board across the gates but that has to be taken down for the lawn mowing guys. And put back on when they're done.

yesterday was down right HOT

Yesterday the temp reached a high 90 F! It was down right HOT... meaning a change in bedding, pj's etc. And having the ceiling fan in my bedroom ON! So no long leg pj's and no quilts ( just a sheet). The fan was great... Bob hasn't turned on the a/c yet.

Harper's visit to the vet didn't result in the removal of her "cone of shame"  ... she has it wear it for another week.. and we have to give her ( and Scout) another week of afternoon supervised pee breaks.

I have signed up for the next Bright Star Promotions online bear show/sale June 13 - 16... so it's time to get to work!

later... Bob turned on the a/c. That should mean better sleeping!!

Hi !

Another trip out to my daughter's house for the dog's afternoon pee break. Tomorrow Harper visits the vet to see if her "cone of shame" can be removed. To us her stitches look healed... but the injury was pretty bad so the vet's opinion is necessary.

I'm sitting on the deck and one can just see Harper in her cone to the right.

This morning I went grocery shopping... still have sticker shock on the price increases. I do go with a list of needed things and things on sale ( from the store flyer). Must admit I do impulse though! One of my impulses was two ears of corn... first of the season.... and a huge container of prepped fresh fruit which was delicious for dinner... strawberries, grapes, pineapple, blueberries, grapes and cantaloupe!

Up early

Bob was up way earlier than usual... he even emptied the dishwasher before I made it downstairs. He planned a trip out to our daughter's house to remove the temporary gate repair preventing Harper from getting out. The lawn guy had to get in and mow the backyard.

We went back to our daughter's so Harper and Scout could have their afternoon pee break... the lawn had been mowed and Bob replaced the temporary thing. The dogs were very glad to see us.. the dog biscuits we took with us made us more than welcome.

Harper's "cone of shame" is supposed to come of Wednesday.

Harper settled?

Harper has left her areas where she digs under the fence alone for the last few days. Not sure what will happen when her "cone of shame" is removed. We have been out daily for an afternoon doggie pee break and both Harper and Scout are very glad to see us!! Especially since we bring some little doggie biscuits with us!

This morning we went to Blue Springs second Saturday market. It was a successful trip with purchases of local farm frozen 1/4 lb burgers, radishes, scones ( yummy breakfast), sweet pepper jelly , asparagus and tomatoes. We are trying a bright yellow one too!  This market has different vendors from the other farmer's market. I almost wish they would combine the two but I don't think there is a place for both together and have parking nearby.

Harper is trying again

Harper has recovered!! That "cone of shame" has not stopped her from trying to dig her way out again! Our daughter sent us a text with details plus instructions. When Bob takes her out for a pee break this afternoon he is to zap her on her special collar if she tries that again.

Harper can't actually get out right now ... we have added a board to prevent the gate from opening at all...but she can try.

We will all work on repairing the gate and fence this weekend... 5 foot dogeared cedar...

May the Fourth be with you

Yesterdays get together for Bob's birthday went well.. It was great to see everyone. It was warm and sunny so some of us moved out to the deck after finishing their cake and ice cream!!

Bob and our older daughter went out to her car to replace her engine air filter ...success!

Earlier in the day we went to the farmer's market... bought tomatoes, cucumbers, a sour dough focassia (sp?) bread, asparagus. Wonderful.. next week we will go to the Blue Springs Main Street Market. Bob didn't want to go to two in one day!

Today was a trip to Home Depot for more deck plants and a latch for our daughter's gate ... to make sure Harper can't get through again... then Bob worked on his new XBox - downloading games etc. I "planted"  things and afterward worked on  a mouse.

Two weeks of doggie visits

It looks like Bob will be doing a two times a day doggie visit for the next two weeks....Good thing we are retired isn't it??

On one of his trips he will stop at Home Depot to pick up what he and our daughter  need to make her gate secure. I will head to the plant end and look to see what else we need. I picked up some things yesterday.

Tomorrow is Farmer's Mkt day... tomatoes.. cukes, asparagus, and whatever is available!! Then it's home to make cupcakes for Bob's birthday get together . Everyone should be here by 3!! Maybe it will be dry and warm enough to sit on the deck!

update on Harper

After spending yesterday at our daughter's office. Harper is home today with Bob going  to our daughter's home twice to check on her and give her pee breaks.  Evidently going outside is not Harper's favorite activity at the moment. Could she remember getting hurt and lost???

She is coping well with her "cone of shame"!

While Bob was checking on Harper I went out for brunch with my younger daughter... we had a good time. She stayed talking after bringing me back home...

Today is Bob's 84th birthday... a day which included two doggie check up trips and then dinner out with me at Applebee's  His new Xbox was downloading - a birthday present he bought for himself.

Saturday people will be over for cupcakes and ice cream... the invitation requested no presents. After all what does he need after buying a new Xbox for himself!! LOL  BTW Microsoft upped the price quite a bit  since Bob ordered his a few days ago!
