Bears made in Florida!

Well... we're back! I have posted lots of pictures and text on my other blog ( the personal one.. see link).
While we were gone I had time at night to hand sew some bears . I have put them up on Bearpile.

I haven't had a chance to update my website , but will soon. It looks like we will NOT be going to the Pat Moore show next month in Grapevine, Texas. I don't think either of us is up for another long drive there and back.
We ARE going to the Bright Star St. Louis show in March and the ABC Schaumberg show in April and the Des Moines Doll & Bear show in May. Guess that's enough driving for anyone!

Winter

Maybe January isn't the month to drive to Florida from Kansas City. We stopped for a few days in the Tenn. mountains where it was cold .... then on to Atlanta where they set a record for snow... almost ONE inch! Then we drove onto Florida where it is cool...but the water is COLD! The daytime temps are in the low 70's but the nights are in the 40's. BUT its loads warmer than KC and I can still roam the beaches looking for shells!

We are going to do some exploring !

Cupid and her dress

Just wanted to show off Cupid and her smocked Valentine dress. I found this cute little heart decorated vintage handkerchief at a garage sale... lucky me! So I sent it to a friend in Texas, Nancy Hauk, to transform it into a hand-smocked bear dress. AND..... here...drum roll... is Cupid wearing it!
I've posted her on BearPile

I've also started a non-Glass Dragon blog...

that's proving to be quite an experience. Its not hosted by blogspot but by wordpress. I'm learning!!!

packing...

Here I an trying to decide what to take or what not to take on our jaunt to Florida next week. We've never been down this early in the season... so what will the weather be like. Its got to be better that Kansas City! But if its cold... I'll need stuff to work on. If its warm... I won't. I guess I'd better go prepared.
I found a new supplier of roving. She lives not to far away in Kansas. I found her on cragslist.com. My first batch of roving arrived on Tuesday. So I got out my dye pot ( actually its a stock pot) and have produced black and various shades of orange and brown. Not as weird as one might think since I have orders for cat ornaments . The customer has cats of "many colors" and that's my goal. I want to do some shades of tan and cream, too. I have gray and white... so I should be all set. I bought some flesh colored roving on eBay... which should make great noses. I am going to try stripes and spots.
I've also cut out some little bears to hand sew..

There is going to be a full moon the Tuesday we are at Sanibel Island! I have plans for a walk on the beach that night....

The laptop is coming along so we won't be "out of touch"!

Favorite?

I did this digital scrapbook page for a challenge on one of the scrapping sites... but thought I'd post it here too. I didn't put my website address or anything on it... one site dumped a page I'd done. Guess they didn't want me advertising myself.....
I sent 5 or 6 bear pictures to a digital bear magazine : Bears and Buds
and most of them will be in the January issue on several pages.... you'll just have to hunt!
For bear lovers, it is a neat e-zine!
I also made another banner for Bearpile.... the one at the top of this posting.

another revamp

I revamped the banner on Bearpile... and revamped several more bears... and did manage to get some of my workroom reorganized. At least I'm no longer in danger of falling over stuff on the floor! But there's lots more to do.... I'm also working on a large order for Christmas ornaments, which feels strange now that it's January. I was told that there wasn't any hurry since they're for next year .

Revamping Christmas bears!

Here 's a sample of my revamping! Kris was all decked out for Christmas. But now that Christmas has come and gone , he needed a new look. Kris is now wearing a sweater I made from a lambswool sweater I tried wet felting. It felted a little but not so much that it became too thick for such a little bear. You can see other revamped bears on Bearpile or my website.
Another task for this post-Christmas season is cleaning and sorting my workroom... and it really needs it. So I'd better get to it.
