spring out the window

Looking out the window in our computer room I see green grass, trees in bloom and baby rabbit ears on our lilacs!!  And sun!! Blue sky!!
I ventured out this morning to make a pick up ( drive through) of two loaves of Kneaders bread. I bake bread but can't compete with theirs. Last night, just before I closed the computer, I had a wish for this bread. So online I went.. ordered it.. paid by credit card... printed out a just in case receipt,,, closed down the computer and went to bed.
Picked the bread up this morning!! My bag of bread was waiting for me at the time I had chosen!!

My daughter is still  teaching from home with two designated time slots when she must be on her computer and ready to answer questions. She does small videos to help the kids and they meet on Zoom. It all seems to be working ok... the kids have to check in with her daily. She also can reach them or their parents by email.  oh... she posts class assignments and gets work back.

We took a short walk Sunday as did my daughter and her husband near their house. We both find people are more likely to greet us then they had been!

Kids are playing outside !  Hard to keep them 6 feet apart...

gorgeous but windy

It is 75 degrees and sunny outside.... nice after three days of off and on rain!! BUT it is windy. Bob and I went out on the deck after hearing a boom. We thought it might be the chairs but no... it was dead limbs falling! Anyway I decided to turn the chairs over and make them a little windproof.

I took a quilt top my sister-in-law had mailed from South Carolina to a friend of mine that will quilt it for her. I put the box on my friend's front steps and found she was at her window. So keeping "social distancing" we had a nice chat. I hadn't seen her since all this started!!
When the quilt is done I will pick it up and mail it back to South Carolina!!  Usually my sister-in-law brings a quilt top with her when she makes her annual visit... but won't be coming this year. She has COPD and doesn't want to take any chances.

My younger daughter is confined to her office for the day!  Her husband gave her a writers's workshop for an anniversary present. Needless to say... the physical event was canceled and she is participating online.

A friend's husband died last week. Not from the virus but still. Aside from other health aspects he had recently broken a hip and after a stay in the hospital had been transferred to a rehab center just as all this started. So my friend could not visit him and he probably died alone.  So no funeral either. Cremation.

The bear sweater is done... now to make a bear to fit it!!

Bear sweater and what else??

Still at home and thinking about what to do to keep myself occupied!! So... planned dinner which will be an easy one of toasted ( grilled) cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Emptied the dishwasher and made coffee.  Read our two papers which are delivered to the end of our driveway.
then... checked the computer for emails, blogs and played a few games,

OK.. then it was turn on the TV to see what was happening in the world... turned it off and went looking for wool and knitting needles!!

Bear sweater time!!

Bob decided we needed to try again doing an online meal order from Applebee's. Last time we were unsuccessful... this time we did it!!!
This means if we really need to order we can!!!   And I don't have to cook even if it was only soup and sandwiches!!

Went for a walk...over 60 outside!  Picked up our dinner afterwards...successful day!

new life continues

Bob and I did a quick grocery shop on Monday ... early. The store was quiet and some shelves ( such as pasta) empty. Commercial bread gone... some store bakery bread and rolls were available. Got milk and salad stuff , cat food , bananas and wine!! We should be set for at least as week.   We were very thorough cleaning when we got home.

Today we tried ordering dinner online...not successful. Tried calling the restaurant but the young man answering the phone said that they were using a call center and could not take our order.  Tried the call center... too busy!

A friend's daughter is a pediatric doctor in Miami. Saw my posting on facebook and asked for a mask for herself and her roommate. Masks are being locked up in her hospital!! Sent four! Will make more if she asks..

My daughter is teaching her classes online. She and another teacher posted a video ( that he made) on how to go to the library's online site and download books.  She made " an assignment"  that the students had to complete using a new book the student had chosen. She teaches 9th grade English. The kids liked the fact that they got to choose the book!

My grandson is now being "homeschooled" ... He set up "an account"yesterday and has to check in everyday and see what has been assigned.  Reminded him he needs to practice his trombone!  He is in Middle School - 8th grade

The Blue Springs School District is making sure kids get food each day... the schools do a site pick up plus there are 6 other sites around town where kids can get lunch each day.

We are finally beginning to look like Spring.  My daughter gave me a daffodil when she was in college eons ago. Each year it sends out a flower and I can see it from my computer desk chair... it's blooming!!  I can also see a tree covered with white flowers in me neighbor's yard.  Waiting for the dogwood next to the tree to bloom!!

Schools and Universities and colleges probably won't meet again this semester... when then do ( hopefully next fall) things will be very different.

home project

If you need a little project while you are "self-isolating" ....here are the instructions for making a face mask. There are many places where they are running out. If you make and donate, be reassured the masks will be sterilized before use.

Made one from the instructions above....

prescriptions and flour

One of my prescriptions was ready to be picked up so off I went. My pharmacy is CVS/Target so before picking up my pills I checked out the food area and lo and behold there was lots of flour!! Picked up 2 5lb bags  and headed to the pharmacy.
I asked the pharmacist whether I could fill the rest of my prescriptions... all 7 of them. She said sure and went about filling them for a three month period.... So, I don't have to go out for pills for three whole months!!

One more good thing for my self-isolation plan!!

While waiting for her to fill them I watched one of the Target cleaning crew clean all the check out stands!!

no flour..... school plans

Bob needed to drop off a package at the Post Office and a ham radio to someone who lives nearby... so he decided to stop at the grocery store on the way home and pick up a bag or two of flour.... no deal. Not a single bag on the shelf!!

My younger daughter teaches high school English... school is closed physically ( due to the coronavirus)  but each student has an i-pad that has been taken home. She has to have her lesson plan online by 8 am. Then she has to be available online for 1.5 hours in the morning and again in the afternoon  so if a student has a question she can answer it. So the students are still learning. I assume written work can be emailed to my daughter who can correct and grade it.
I was glad to hear this...having kids miss possibly months of school was disheartening.

staying home

We didn't make it to the grocery store yesterday... heard too many tales of long lines and empty shelves. Waited until this morning !
The store... the one we usually go to... had a reasonable number of cars in the parking lot so we went in.  The store wasn't full nor were the shelves empty.  We followed my list and got the cats enough to last them two weeks. There were several check out lines with three in each but no one had huge carts full of "stuff" and no one seemed to be overstocking of toilet paper etc. !!
I'll start a new list and go back in a week or so...

The libraries are closed...our gym is closed ... senior center is closed...schools are closed partly due to spring breaks....and events like craft shows are postponed or cancelled.
Our gym and the senior center closed because of the Jackson County Health Dept. and the CDC 's instructions!!

Life is different...

Missouri has 7 confirmed cases... 127 tested

keeping occupied

Not wanting to get too bogged down with watching the news nor do I want to go out... social distancing is our way to go!
So what to do?? I can't keep on making bear after bear. I have my doubts about how sales will go with the economy in a turmoil so cooking is  the thing to do.  I made a huge batch of ginger cookies this morning. Most of them are in the freezer since my recipe freezes well .
Bob is still making Irish Soda bread... so we are enjoying that.  We bought a cookbook through PBS when Kevin Dundon , an Irish chef, had a TV series. Bob has been using his recipe !! And playing around by adding things like apricots, craisins etc.
We stocked the freezer  and pantry and will continue our cooking "explorations" - trying some new things - part of keeping boredom at bay!!

When I went out for the newspaper this morning I discovered that we had had hail earlier in the morning. Days of warm 70's are gone for the moment!!

Hopefully while most people are in church tomorrow we can make a quick grocery run. We didn't prepare quite well enough for the cats... and there are a few things I want for us.

We have received email after email telling us whether something is closed or how well they are cleaning and sanitizing....

cancellations right and left

Even though Missouri seems to have very few people with the covid-19 virus ,things are being cancelled right and left... from schools/colleges, to sporting events to craft shows and so on. City Mayors are declaring "states of emergency".
We are being quite cautious... where we go, how we open doors and washing hands frequently.
I was supposed to have my quilting group here next week... but more than half of us are in the virus' high risk group. So I cancelled.
Bob and I were to go to Branson, MO, for a ham radio convention on April 3 -4. It has been cancelled.. but we had already decided not to go!

So life is changing....  hope we can "flatten" the curve!!

Missouri Primary Day

Bob and I went to vote  in the primary this morning...taking along our "picture id" as required!!  It wasn't busy at all which is a little discouraging . The news media doesn't spend much time on Missouri ... not enough delegates  I guess.

We had quite a rainstorm yesterday... leaving large pools in the back yard. But that should put an end to the fire alerts. Today the pools are gone and the sun is back out!  My neighbors daffodils are beginning to bud.

Still keeping watch on what is being said about the coronavirus... stuff from the CDC, health departments and other "reputable" sources.  There has been one confirmed case in the Kansas City Metro area ( on the Kansas side).... though there is one in the St. Louis side of Missouri with a problem  with the family which will probably mean more cases.

washing hands... lots of washing hands!!

sunshine to Angie

Would love to send you some sunshine Angie... but not all !!

The real ID part of the driver's license was not the hard part.... just waiting our turn was!! Our motor vehicle bureau is privately paid for by the state. The employees are pleasant and they know their stuff but there just aren't enough to handle all the people.

Tigger and Jack have decided my bed is the place to be each morning !! I make the bed and Jack ( the gray striped one) slips under the bedding through the hollow between the pillows. Tigger ( the orange one) sleeps on top. Not sure how happy each would be if one knew the other was there. Sleeping near each other is not the thing!

Tomorrow we have plans to grill steaks outside... first time this year!!  It is supposed to get close to 70 !!

Have you seen the warnings about next week ?  Daylight savings time, full moon and Friday the 13th !!

Bought daffodils at the grocery store yesterday...

watching for advice

I have been watching for advice on "what to do" !!   Just in case the virus shows up here in Missouri I bought extra  paper towels ( hand washing), facial tissues, anti-bacterial hand soap, hand sanitizer and toilet paper.  I have also been thinking about how to handle the food issue.  We are pretty well stocked in the cupboards and freezer but would miss milk and fresh veggies.  Our grocery stores do deliver and one can order stuff and pick it up... so that might be what we will do....

We've had wonderful weather... but the weather people don't agree. It's been windy and we are dry so they have sent out fire alerts . Guess they are right... there have been grass fires!!
I'm still enjoying the sun and temps in the 60's!!

Bob's and my driver's licenses  were about to expire and if we wanted a real id license  ( one where you can fly  without a passport)  we had to dig up and take lots of id which had our addresses on them.  We ended up taking our voter id cards, passports, Social Security cards and  utility bill. The license bureau office is always busy... and I mean busy. Bob checked us in and we waited our turns... about 90 minutes. Other wait-ees were friendly and we all leaned against a wall. Definitely glad to finish... the new license will come in the mail. Our pictures weren't too bad... Bob looks more and more like his father! LOL

beautiful outside

The thermometer says it is almost 60 F outside... my view from our office is one of a cloudless blue sky!! No daffodils or snowdrops... no buds on the trees,  but the grass is getting greener!
Next weekend is Daylight Savings time... longer days and lighter mornings. Hooray

Started this yesterday and the weather is still warm but a little grayer today.  Taking advantage of both days I went on a walk yesterday and to the gym this morning.

We met my elder daughter and her husband for dinner last night... we went to the restaurant where my grand daughter works ( the child of my younger daughter) . Since she is not old enough to waitress due to the liquor laws , she buses, seats people and brings out to cars food people have ordered online and are picking up.
We all got hugs !!
She likes her job and works mostly evenings andweekends ... she's in college too.
